This was a project for a zine produced in lieu of an in-person event during the lockdown period.


The brief was to produce a companion illustration for an article by journalist layla-roxanne hill around corporate appropriation of protest movements, warping the underlying messaging to fit their own agendas and discarding the underlying social pressures.


I decided to exaggerate the corporate and media interests into a humourous but monstrous figure, reaching down into the discontented mass of protestors below. It cherry-picks popular symbols with one hand, replicating and distorting them with another before packaging them into products of its own. The lauding voices of media and technology corporations applaud the product, floating high above the discontented crowd below.
